Below is a list of burial options available to you in our Joliet Diocesan Cemeteries.  Under each option is the definition and a listing of our cemeteries that offer the option. 

In addition to the burial options listed, all Joliet Diocesan Cemeteries offer complete burial packages, pre-need and immediate need services, personal customization of memorials, pre-need interest free financing and perpetual care of our sacred buildings and grounds.

Preparing your Cemetery arrangements

There are twenty two Diocesan Cemeteries within the Diocese of Joliet.  From our century-old St. Patrick Cemetery in Joliet; to the magnificent S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Naperville; to the country side of All Saints Cemetery & Mausoleum in Bourbonnais; to our newly consecrated (2004) Risen Lord Cemetery in Oswego. General Overivew of Burial Options (Final Disposition)

PRIVATE ESTATE MAUSOLEUM STRUCTURES

A mausoleum is a structure or building, specially designed for the entombment of casketed remains. A casket is placed in a crypt (mausoleum space) within a mausoleum when it is entombed. The private Estate Mausoleum is constructed on cemetery grounds but is designed and owned by a person or family. The amount of entombments within the mausoleum varies on the size constructed. The Private Estate allows for a family to memorialize and celebrate the legacy of loved ones in the most dignified and esthetic manner.

GROUND BURIAL (GRAVES)

Ground burial is a popular form of traditional burial. Caskets or urns are placed inside an outer burial container (vault), which is then placed in the ground for an earth burial. With in-ground burial you have the option of either placing an upright monument (required purchase of two ground burial spaces) or placing a lawn level (flush) granite memorial to memoralize and celebrate a life lived.

When a second burial is placed in a single burial space, a second rite of interment fee will be charged. The burial configurations allowed are listed below.

Burial Configurations allowed in a grave
	One full burial that consists of one casketed remains in outer burial container (vault).		One full burial that consists of casket/outer burial container, with a cremation burial/urn vault. The second rite of interment applies.
	One burial of cremated remains in one grave.		Two burials of cremated remains in one grave. The second rite of interment applies.
	Two graves (side by side) are required for the placement of an upright monument, or a companion flush granite memorial.		Two full casketed burials are NOT PERMITTED into one burial grave.

CREMATION NICHE COLUMBARIUM

An above ground burial crypt, sized for an urn, containing the cremated remains of the body, allowing for identification and remembrance. These are located inside or outside on cemetery grounds (varies upon cemetery). A Columbarium (either glass, wood, or granite coverings) offer niches spaces that provide a permanent and lasting memorial for the urns holding cremated remains. Depending on the cemetery location, various types of cremation niche columbaria are available.

CREMATION GARDENS

Typically, cremation gardens are beautifully landscaped areas in a natural setting and accommodate various expressions of memorialization from granite benches, boulders, to memorial plaques. These above ground memorials are specifically designed and made to hold the cremated remains of a loved one.
