Sep.: Institute of Spiritual Companionship, through the Diocese of Joliet is a 15-month training and formation program for people in ministry to become spiritual companions. It is composed of three segments including academic, pastoral skills and personal formation components. 26 classes held on Thursdays, Sept 2006 - Dec 2007. Sep.: Ministers of Care Training. The ministry to the sick and homebound is a very powerful ministry for which special training is necessary. The diocese has been working for years with Sr. Jane Schlosser, RSM at the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien to provide certification for those entering this ministry. The next training session begins in September. Sep. 6, 13, & 20: Ministry of Consolation Training. A three-part bereavement workshop, co-sponsored by the Center for Family Ministry (815-838-5334) and the Office of Divine Worship (815-838-7098), will be held for persons who are new to this ministry.  This training, developed by National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc.  (NCMB), will use NCMB’s edition, Copyright ©2006.   Attendance at all three sessions is required.  Focus areas will include the grief process, communication skills, setting up the parish program (including the Order of Christian Funerals), caring for the minister, and support groups.  Presenters will be Desirée Marciani, associate director of the Center for Family Ministry and Sr. Sharon Marie Stola, director of the Office of Divine Worship.  Both women have extensive experience in bereavement ministry. Sep. 6 & 20, Oct. 4 & 11, Nov. 1 & 15  Fall Graduate Course. The Institute of Pastoral Studies (IPS) at Loyola University is offering a Fall graduate course on Liturgy and the Christian Sacraments at St. Michael Parish in Wheaton. The class will be held in the Faith Center on the 1st floor in the Adult Education Room. Sep. 11: Peace & Social Justice Workshop: God’s Justice as Revealed in the Bible. 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., St. Charles Center, Romeoville. God raised up Moses to reveal his justice in action in favor of the Hebrews.  The Hebrews were to remember and promote God’s system of justice throughout the world.   When they struggled with God’s system of justice, God sent Jesus to revive his system of justice on the earth.  Jesus did this especially in his five-point program in the Gospel of Luke. Engaged EncounterSep. 12-14:  Engaged Encounter Weekend. St. Charles Center, Romeoville.  8:00 p.m. Fri. to 3:00 p.m. Sun. Engaged couples are given the opportunity to talk honestly and intensively about their prospective life together. Topics include an assessment of the couple’s strengths and weaknesses, their ambitions and goals, attitudes about money, sex, children, family, and relationship to the Church. Personal reflection and communication are the main focus. Engaged Encounter is approved by the Diocese of Joliet as a marriage preparation program. Systematic theology about the Trinity has seen a great revival in the past twenty years in Christian theological circles. A revived and renewed Trinitarian theology has come from the ecumenical dialogue between Western Christian theologians and the Orthodox theologians, and from the challenge of atheism to Christianity. The Trinity, the form of God who is love, is not irrelevant to life or unknown, though persons can never come to comprehend the fullness of the mystery of God’s love. The Biblical Institute of the Diocese of Joliet, a four year program for studying every book of the Bible, will be held on Saturdays, September through May from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Parish in Clarendon Hills. The program instructor will be Carol Kloss, M.A., former teacher and director of the Chicago Catholic Scripture School of the Archdiocese of Chicago. This workshop explores major themes of Catholic social teachings and their gospel roots as well as local ecclesial practices which promote discipleship and build up just communities of faith in action.

This fall our community will be uniting with dozens of other cities across America -
around the world - for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history -
